High-resolution images, but what about the web?
While high-resolution images are great for advertising and print, they often become too large and heavy to load for web use. By using file formats in feed®, images will automatically be generated in the specified size, allowing them to be used as an alternative to the original image.
When you create a file format, images in the formats you have created will automatically be generated for all uploaded images.
Important note
Not all file types can be converted to custom formats. This typically works for "standard" file formats such as jpg, png, etc...
Other file formats that are more specialized and/or proprietary unfortunately cannot generate formats. Examples of file types that are most likely unable to generate formats:
- TIF, TIFF
- EPS
- RAW
- ++
You can choose between:
"Resize" which changes the size to the specified width and height in pixels while keeping the aspect ratio. This means that you specify a maximum height and a maximum width, and the original image will be adjusted to match the maximum specified value for either width or height.
"Crop" This does not change the size of the image but rather makes a "cutout" of the image in the specified number of pixels in width and height from the center of the image.
When you create new formats (in Basic data > Media > File format) after there are already images in the media bank, you can trigger the generation of these for existing images via the context menu in the top right corner. You can choose to only generate missing formats or trigger the re-generation of all formats.
